La conferenza annuale di International House Milano | San Donato torna venerdì 16 ottobre 2026 con una nuova giornata dedicata alla formazione, al confronto e allo sviluppo professionale dei docenti di inglese. L’edizione 2026 invita insegnanti, teacher trainer e professionisti ELT a riportare l’attenzione sugli elementi essenziali di un insegnamento efficace: pratiche didattiche solide, scelte metodologiche consapevoli e strategie realmente utili per studenti e docenti.

La conferenza annuale EFL di IH Milano | San Donato riunisce docenti, teacher trainer, autori ed esperti dell’English Language Teaching per condividere esperienze, metodologie e strumenti utili per la classe. Durante la giornata potrai:

seguire interventi dedicati alla didattica e allo sviluppo professionale;
approfondire metodologie e pratiche applicabili in classe;
confrontarti con speaker ed esperti del settore ELT;

Back to What Matters: Rediscovering the essentials of effective teaching

In un contesto educativo caratterizzato da nuove tecnologie, crescente disponibilità di risorse e continui cambiamenti, diventa essenziale riconoscere ciò che produce un reale valore nell’apprendimento. La conferenza 2026 propone una riflessione sulle basi dell’insegnamento efficace: obiettivi chiari, attività ben progettate, interazione significativa, feedback utile e decisioni metodologiche fondate sui bisogni degli studenti.

Le sessioni offriranno prospettive, esempi e spunti pratici per trasformare questi principi in scelte didattiche concrete.

docenti di inglese delle scuole pubbliche e private;
insegnanti della scuola primaria e secondaria;
docenti EFL ed ESL;

Teacher Trainer | Mindfulness & Well-being in Education

Chantelle Walsh

Chantelle Walsh is an experienced teacher and trainer from Ireland, based in Italy for over 25 years. Her work focuses on mindfulness and well-being in education, creating reflective learning spaces rooted in empathy and human connection. She speaks internationally, is an AISLi school inspector, and she is also a co-ordinator of the European Mindful and Compassionate ELT Project, contributing to ongoing initiatives that promote more humane, mindful, and compassionate teaching practices.

Director of Studies | Teacher Trainer

Glenn Standish

Glenn Standish was born in New Zealand but was brought up in Saudi Arabia and the UK. He has taught English in Poland for 23 years and has been the Director of Studies at IH Toruń for the past 14 years. He is also a tutor for the IHCYLT (IH Certificate in Teaching Young Learners and Teenagers) and IHCAM (IH Certificate in Advanced Methodology) courses and an IHWO course moderator. He has written several articles for The Teacher and The IH Journal magazine and is currently the National Geographic Learning Ambassador for Outcomes 3ed. He loves presenting on the conference circuit and has visited 67 countries (most recently Myanmar and Pakistan). He has given workshops in many countries such as Belarus, Bulgaria, Colombia, Italy, Moldova, Portugal, Romania, Ukraine, and the UK, among others

Senior Research Manager | Language Assessment & Learning

Graham Seed

Graham Seed is a Senior Research Manager at Cambridge University Press and Assessment - English, where he works on different projects relating to language assessment and learning. His current professional interests include good practice for digital learning and assessment materials, operationalisation of the CEFR, and multilingualism in learning and assessment contexts. He holds an MA in Language Testing from Lancaster University, DELTA and CELTA, and previously taught EFL in Bosnia, Russia and the UK. He is currently also the Secretariat Manager of ALTE – the Association of Language Testers in Europe.

Teacher Trainer & Academic Manager

Lucie Cotterill

Lucie Cotterill is an experienced teacher, teacher trainer, and academic manager with over 20 years of experience. She works with IH World as IH Director of Studies Coordinator, tutors on the IH OTTI (online tutoring) and IH Diploma in Academic Management courses and was previously Director of Innovation at IH Reggio Calabria. Lucie has taught learners from very young to adult levels, led academic teams, organised teacher training and local conferences, and develops school-wide innovation projects and recruitment processes. She is a regular speaker at national and international ELT events.

CELTA Tutor | EFL Teacher & Teacher Trainer

Nino Naso

A language enthusiast through and through, Nino has been working in the EFL industry for over a decade and a dedicated member of IH Milan since 2021. Alongside tutoring on CELTA courses, he juggles roles as a university lecturer, professional translator, and Director of Studies for UK-based language programmes. Teacher training is both Nino's vocation and his greatest passion. He has a particular interest in phonology and enjoys guiding teachers and learners on the fascinating journey through the sounds of the English language. When he’s not in the classroom, you’ll probably find him reading anglophone literature under a tree or listening to his favourite Taylor Swift album.

Abstract

As AI can now perform many tasks traditionally taught in language classrooms, it’s right to ask the question: what’s worth teaching?

This session explores the communication skills that learners still need in an AI-rich world: Drawing on the CEFR’s concept of mediation, Cambridge’s Life Competencies Framework, research on oracy, and Global Englishes, we will consider effective communication across cultures and contexts, with some practical ideas to implement in the classroom. We will also examine the continuing role of human expertise in language assessment, arguing that people remain essential wherever meaningful communication, fairness, and reliable judgement matter most.

Abstract

Communicative Language Teaching has long dominated ELT, while many other approaches have been consigned to oblivion on the assumption that they no longer serve us. But do they?

Which begs the question: Have we buried Audiolingualism too soon? Drawing on a classroom-based study, this session revisits a method often dismissed as “outdated” and explores how its principles and techniques may offer an overlooked solution to persistent challenges of retention and language activation in today’s ELT classrooms.

Participants will experience Audiolingual techniques first-hand, critically examine their potential benefits, and leave with a complete bank of ready-to-use activities that can be immediately implemented in their own teaching contexts.
